Bielefeld Hbf, then take tram line 4 in the direction of Lohmannshof to the Universität stop (journey time 7 minutes).

Taxis are always available directly in front of the main station. The fare to the university is currently around 16 euros.

From the north:

Motorway A2: Exit Bi-Ost, Detmolder Str. direction Zentrum (6 km, approx. 10 min). Way via Kreuzstr., Oberntorwall, Stapenhorststr., Kurt-Schumacher-Str. (is signposted).

From the south:

Motorway A2: At the Bielefeld junction, take the A33 towards Bi-Zentrum, exit at Bi-Zentrum, follow the signs to the city centre on Ostwestfalendamm (B61), exit at Universität, follow Stapenhorststr., Kurt-Schumacher-Str. (is signposted).

There is plenty of free parking available on campus.

There are numerous bicycle racks as well as three repair stations on campus that are free to use.

Bicycle stands

Sheltered stands:

  • Car park 3 (Level 0), Universitätsstraße
  • Building X (underground car park), Universitätsstraße / Vermittlung
  • Under the pedestrian bridge to the Stadtbahn, Universitätsstraße
  • Building R2, Morgenbreede
  • Building R4, Konsequenz
  • Building Y, Konsequenz
  • Forecast: after construction on the car park on Universitätsstraße is completed, there will be another 100 sheltered bicycle stands

Outside bicycle racks

Additionally, there are multiple locations, especially in front of all buildings or entrances, with outside bicycle racks. Larger clusters can be found here:

  • The Boulevard between Building X and the interim building of the library
  • Around the main-building: 
  • In front of the main entrance on Universitätsstraße (Entrance B02)
  • In front of the entrance to the AudiMax (East, Entrance K)
  • The backside of the gym (West, CeBiTec)
  • Around the R-buildings of the medical school OWL on Morgenbreede and Konsequenz on Campus South
  • Between CITEC and HSBI on Campus North

Bike repair stations (self-service)

If your bike needs maintenance on campus, you can find one of the three yellow free-to-use repair stations. They include a tyre pump (with adapters for all of the most common valves) as well as tools, such as tyre levers and different wrenches. These self-service stations are located in front of Building X (Boulevard) and Building Z (Konsequenz), as well as between sections D/N/E of the main building.

(approx. 190 km from Bielefeld)

From Düsseldorf airport, the Skytrain will take you to the train station in about 5 minutes. Depending on which train you take (direct or with a change in Hamm or Duisburg), the journey takes between 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

Frankfurt am Main
(approx. 320 km from Bielefeld)

There are Intercity connections from Frankfurt Airport to Bielefeld (departure every hour with change in Cologne or Hanover - journey time approx. 4 hours).

Hanover

(about 110 km to Bielefeld)

The S-Bahn line S5 takes you from Hanover Airport to the main railway station in Hanover city centre in 12 minutes.

Intercity trains from Hanover to Bielefeld run every hour. Project duration approx. 50-60 minutes (without changing trains).

Cologne-Bonn
(about 200 km to Bielefeld)

Intercity trains run every hour from Cologne-Bonn Airport to Bielefeld, approximate project duration 2 1/2 hours.

Dortmund
(about 110 km to Bielefeld)

You can either take a free shuttle bus from Dortmund Airport to Holzwickede, and from there a regional train to Bielefeld, changing in Hamm (time about 1 hour) or take a shuttle bus to Dortmund Main Station (project duration: 25 minutes) and from there a through train to Bielefeld (project duration: less than an hour).
Paderborn/Lippstadt
Thanks to its central and very convenient location on the K37, in the middle of East Westphalia between the cities of Paderborn (20 km) and Lippstadt (26 km), Paderborn-Lippstadt Airport can be reached quickly and easily from all directions.
